PLEASE SPREAD AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS, EVEN IF THEY ARENT ARTISTS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT

my brother told me that in japan and in the US there is going to be a law which might actually get passed that will ruin everything and would shut down basically every single website. youre not allowed to make fanfiction, cosplay, draw artwork from anything like books, movies, shows, videoganes, etc. one thing that is confusing about this is how would halloween go?? so basically, everyone here would go to federal prison for having warrior OCs or drawing warriors fanart. youre basically not allowed to do anything, no artwork, no cosplays, no stories, no anything. i really dont know much only that deviantart would be the first site out of all of them to go down! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

I took a look at the article and what is stated on the Trans-Pacific partnership, and what Prince-Jamie-The-7th says is right, this is a case of scaremongering.

I took a look at the links the article cites as its sources, one of which is a Wikileaks doc of the TPP in detail (assuming Wikileaks can be trusted). I did a brief scan of the section regarding copyright, and the whole thing can be summed up by the statement "Each Party shall provide that authors, performers, and producers of phonograms have the right to authorize or prohibit all reproductions of their works, performances, and phonograms in any manner of form, including in electronic form.". That doesn't mean it prohibits fanart, rather it just prohibits people from making fake stuff and distributing it (think bootleg DVDs, illegal downloads of TV shows, unauthorized streams of performances, etc). As far as my understanding of the TPP goes with regards to fanart, your fanart is safe.
